April 2024 Welcome to my first bi-monthly newsletter Catching Up Normally the first 2 months of each year are very quiet, which means I have lots of time to focus in on my writing and get new projects started. 2024 has proven the exception. That said, there have already been a few wonderful highlights. New York City I was privileged in February to travel to New York City for six days to attend the Global Fashion Collective NYFW FW 24 shows. I also had a few open days, as well as free mornings on show days. In addition to wandering the sites, I was excited to spend a day with my friend and fellow author Gabriella Contestabile. We chatted non-stop while taking in two great exhibits at MOMA, followed by a late lunch at a fabulous Italian Restaurant. Gabriella is a talented author. I highly recommend her novel Sass, Smarts and Stilettos and her book of short stories called That Time of Day. My free mornings were spent exploring the city on foot. I love New York City. It is filled with great architecture and features an unlimited number places to visit. This visit I chose to check out Little Island, The Costume Museum at the Metropolitan Art Gallery, Grand Central Station, Mood Fabrics, The Museum at FIT, and Chelsea Market. A favorite memory from my visit was the day I wore my loud, colorful Picasso coat to the fashion shows. I was worried about walking back to my hotel alone after dark in such a loud garment, but a surprise was in store. The coat drew lovely comments from people of all ages and ethnicities. Some even chose to walk with me for several blocks sharing about their lives, and asking questions about mine. It was an amazing experience and good reminder to not make assumptions. The first is a small eBook featuring select articles from the magazine style blog I launched in 2010 called Olio by Marilyn. I will be offering free download days for this eBook, so stay tuned. Releasing a new book is also high on my priority list. Two of the ideas I am considering are a follow up to the Wisdom of Listening inspired by books I have read, and a follow-up to Life Outside the Box featuring 10 to 12 new mini-bios. Bonus - I will be sending a free chapter from one of my books as a thank-you to everyone who subscribes to my newsletter. If you know anyone who might be interested, please pass this on.
